The Fondation Mères du Monde en Santé (FMMS) is very sad to announce the recent death of our young friend and colleague Dr Maria Helena Calixto Fernandes. Maria Helena took part in our mission to Togo in April 2023 and enchanted all our group and the team she worked with her joy, her meticulous work as an anesthetist and her sympathetic participation in the life of FMMS. She subsequently supported FMMS by getting involved in some of our projects, and promised to return in Africa to the work with us as soon as she had established herself as an anesthetist in Quebec.
Maria Helena rest in peace, you will be greatly missed by all those who knew you. Our African colleagues join us in extending our deepest sympathies to your daughters and family in Brazil you’ve told us so much about.
